Preservan uses non-toxic borate rods on wood to help prevent wood rot & wood damage caused by insects, fungi & the elements.

The wood on your home has a big job: from insulating and protecting your home from the elements and providing structural support, to adding personal touches and aesthetics to the architecture. Although wood is used for its strength, reliability, and ease of use, it’s also a natural, biodegradable material. When exposed to the elements, damage from moisture, UV rays, fungal spores, termites, and more are bound to occur over time. By protecting your wood now, you can save money, time, and headaches in the future

Can We Stop Wood Rot With Preventative Maintenance?

The short answer is yes! Preservan provides preventative home maintenance using Borate Rods. Our process will do wonders in preventing wood rot damage. We will insert borate rods into the wood of your home to treat against wood rot & wood destroying insects. The borate rods will seep into the wood and work to “poison” any organisms or fungi that consume it. Borate rods are an excellent choice for stopping wood rot and termite damage from ever occurring in the first place.

Poison?! Are You Sure That’s Safe To Use Near My Home?

Don’t worry – borate rods are perfectly safe to humans! Boron, the primary mineral in Borate Rods, is a naturally occurring material, and traces of it are found all throughout nature: in plants, soil, and even some animals! Borate Rods only work to disturb digestive systems of simple-organism wood consumers like termites and fungi. It’s a naturally derived wood treatment and not harmful to the environment, people, or pets. At Preservan, we do not use any products that will cause damage to our environment.

So, How Do Borate Rods Work?

Our borate rod installation is executed by drilling into the wood, inserting the rod, and repainting/refinishing the area as needed. Once they’re inserted, the rods are moisture-activated. Any time the humidity and moisture inside the wood reaches the activation percentage, the treatment is released and seeps deep into the wood. This process is repeated every time the moisture in the wood hits the activation percentage until the rod is used up. Once installed, there really isn’t anything else to do but let the rods do the work.

How Long Do Borate Rods Last

Borate rods last for about 3 years. The length of time can be shorter or longer depending on the amount of moisture the wood on your home receives. We suggest freshing your borate wood treatment every 2-3 years for best results in preventing wood rot and damage.
